Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is back at home following a week-long spell in hospital to treat a persistent infection.

Arriving home this morning in a dressing gown with the words, Feet Up Arch, embroidered on the back, the Archbishop paid warm tribute to his team of doctors for their expertise and generosity. He looked forward to spending quality time with Mrs Tutu and watching a little cricket (South Africa are playing in Bangladesh), he said.

The Archbishop’s daughter, the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu, said his medical team had prescribed lots of rest. “They have been fantastic and we’ll be doing our best not to disappoint them.”

The family was very grateful for the love and support of friends in South Africa and abroad, she said.
