CAPE TOWN LAUNCH OF #OperationHydrate

BLESSING OF THE WATER: Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu blesses water collected at the Cape Town launch of #OperationHydrate today. Joining him are Razaan Bailey of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, Mrs Leah Tutu, Executive Mayor of Cape Town Patricia De Lille, Miss Earth South Africa 2014 Ilze Saunders and Yusuf Abramjee of #OperationHydrate. The programme was also addressed by Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela MP. The water collection programme is a civil society initiative in response to the drought presently afflicting large parts of South Africa. Bottled water is being collected and trucked to those most in need, while the first #OperationHydrate community boreholes are in the process of being sunk. The Cape Town launch was hosted by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation. The first Cape Town water collection point (office hours) is the Focus Fabrics Building, at 128 Sir Lowry Road, on the corner of Russell Street. The Cape Town campaign will initially focus on collecting water for 22 days, until International Water Day on 22 March.
