The Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation visited the Ark City of Refuge on Heritage Day to engage young residents on the subjects of peace and heritage – and to share a meal.
Since The Ark City of Refuge was established in 1992 in response to high rates of unemployment and homelessness in Cape Town, more than 35 000 people have been through its doors. The facility includes a creche and a school, boys and girls homes, a single women and mothers home, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, income generating workshops and a job placement office.
The programme incorporated story-telling, a heritage presentation & peace-building games and dancing – followed by a braai.
Among the objectives of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation is to contribute toward positioning Cape Town as a world capitol for the intellectual and practical pursuit of local and global peace, morality and human dignity.
