Ubuntu Train Symposium

The Symposium is held as a prelude to the Annual Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture in October. The theme for 2015 was, Peace and Democracy: What’s law got to do with it?

It is an opportunity for members of the Tutu constellation of organisations to come together to share common threads of their work.

The event is hosted in partnership with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), at its Bellville Campus.

In 2015, the five Tutu Chairs from Vrije Universiteit in The Netherlands discussed peace, democracy and law as it applies to their respective fields of study: Theology (Prof Dr VD Borght), Medicine (Prof Van Furth and Prof Bitter), Sports Science (Prof Dr Savelsbergh), and Numeracy (Prof Ran).

Delegates were encouraged to explore the topic further through applying the TUTU Analysis. The framework of the TUTU Analysis is:

T – Threats
U – Understanding
T – Transformation
U – Ubuntu
