Religious leaders marched to parliament to deliver a message to President Zuma – 19 April 2014

CALL TO WITNESS: Archbishop of Cape Town Thabo Makgoba led an interfaith march from District Six to parliament on Saturday (19 April), where he called on President Jacob Zuma to take responsibility for citizens’ lack of trust in government. Archbishop Makgoba appealed to President Zuma to prove that he did not personally benefit  – directly or indirectly – from the +R200m upgrade” at his private residence in Nkandla.“We want to believe our President when he said that he didn’t rob our nation’s treasury. But if he didn’t, did he hold the step ladder? If he did hold the step ladder, sadly he’s as guilty as the person who climbed through your window. All this leave me to some questions. Mr. President, how much longer do the citizens of South Africa have to wait to for you to explain how you came to make the decisions you made on Nkandla?”
