CAPE TOWN, 27 August 2015: The Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu briefed journalists today on her father, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s health.
The Archbishop is approximately halfway through a two-week course of intensive medication, in hospital, she said.
“Medically speaking, his doctors are very pleased with his progress and the efficacy of the treatment. Though he is receiving medication intravenously Arch is not bedridden in the classic sense of the word. He is walking in the hospital corridors. But, as I said last week, he is 83, not 38, and doesn’t have endless reserves of energy.
“Spiritually, he is sustained by the messages of love and prayers he has received. I mean this in the most literal sense. Every day, he receives more flowers, more emails, more messages via social media, more jokes… We cannot stress enough our family’s gratitude to all who have contributed in this way to the healing process,” the Reverend Canon Tutu said.
The family remained concerned, obviously, and keen to see him home to rebuild his strength. We hope to have him home within a week, on completion of the course of medication, she said.
