13th Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture

The 13th Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture, organised by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, takes on an exciting conversational format this year with philanthropist and advocate for women and girls, Melinda French Gates. The event, initiated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is set to promote peace, healing, and courageous leadership.

Unlocking Women’s Power for Peace and Prosperity is the central theme, highlighting the transformative potential of women in society. This year’s fireside chat, featuring Melinda French Gates and Global Moderator Nozipho Tshabalala, will explore women’s impact on families, communities, and cultures; alongside Dr. Athambile Masola as the respondent.

In addition to celebrating peace, this year’s event honors co-founder Mrs. Leah Tutu on her 90th birthday. Alongside the fireside chat, we have the pleasure of Charlene Houston curating an exhibition highlighting the extraordinary stories of women who played pivotal roles in the anti-apartheid struggle, focusing on 90 notable narratives. The 90 Voices HERstory exhibition shines a spotlight on the remarkable stories of women, underscoring their pivotal contributions across various spheres of society. Their impact is evident in the innovative paradigms they introduced in education, healthcare, religion, childcare, leadership, and every facet of life. The 13th Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture aims to be an inclusive gathering, celebrating women’s leadership globally and within communities.
