As part of our Africa Day commemoration, we launched Let’s Talk About Sudan, a dynamic series designed to build understanding and solidarity around the unfolding crisis in Sudan. On April 30, 2024, the inaugural webinar, The Consequences of Unfinished Revolutions, provided a platform to examine the parallels between South Africa’s hard-won freedom and Sudan’s ongoing challenges with democracy and justice.
Moderated by Ntombenhle Shezi, our Advocacy and Communications Manager, the discussion featured an esteemed panel of speakers:
- Luvano Ntuli, investigator at Open Secrets, whose research focuses on gender justice and transitional justice.
- Isma’il Kushkush, journalist and former New York Times bureau chief, who provided on-the-ground insights from Sudan.
- Raga Makawi, British-Sudanese researcher and editor, who spoke about peace and conflict in Sudan’s complex landscape.
The panel explored the lasting consequences of unfinished revolutions, the pitfalls of compromised democratic processes, and the urgent need for meaningful transitional justice.
We are deeply appreciative of everyone who joined us for this powerful conversation and look forward to continuing the series as we build connections across the African diaspora.
