Open Invitation: Women Activists of the United Democratic Front

As we mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the United Democratic Front (UDF) on August 20th, we are thrilled to extend an invitation to women UDF activists to participate in pondering, reflecting, and writing about their experiences.

Regrettably, the voices of women and their experiences within the UDF remain scarcely represented in public discourse. This initiative seeks to rectify that imbalance.

We invite women activists to contemplate the multifaceted layers of activism, the costs involved in this work, lessons learned, and how these lessons can be utilised to confront our current context.

Leading this project is Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation Programme Manager and former UDF activist, Charlene Houston. Writing workshops will be facilitated by former UDF activist, Prof Gertrude Fester.
