MANAGER: LEARNING FROM LEGACY

Charlene Houston is the Programme Manager of the Learning from Legacy Programme, overseeing Exhibitions, Educational Programmes, and Public Programmes. Previously, as Head of the Museum Service for the Western Cape Government, she led the pioneering reburial of ancestral remains from South African museums. She has also contributed to legacy projects for prominent figures such as Nelson Mandela, Albie Sachs, and Denis Goldberg. Currently pursuing a PhD in Education, Charlene explores the dynamics between social learning institutions and their communities. A multi-disciplinary historian, she is deeply interested in heritage, identity, justice, and collective agency. In her downtime, she enjoys singing, walking, blowing bubbles, colouring mandalas, and listening to jazz.
