Ntombenhle Shezi is an award-winning journalist, editor, researcher, and documentary filmmaker who is committed to advancing social justice in all its forms. She is an accomplished and seasoned communications professional with extensive experience in print and broadcasting media, cultural organisations and advocacy. After pivoting from full time work in the media, Ntombenhle finds herself privileged to be at the fore of advocacy and communications at the Tutu Legacy Foundation. Prior to this, she had the privilege of working with the Wits History of Art Department to coordinate a course on artistic practices and migration. This course explored how art can generate new knowledge about migration and displacement, addressing urgent global challenges. The culmination of this endeavour was the “Rendered Passages” exhibition, which she co-curated, providing a platform for diverse perspectives on migration. Ntombenhle has also worked as a Communications and PR Manager for the award-winning commercial radio station Kaya FM, and served with a dual editor role on international publications ELLE and ELLE Decoration, her by-line for local and international publications is extensive. She is also a cultural worker who has lead communications efforts for the British Council South Africa and the French Institute of South Africa. Ntombenhle is a 200 Mail & Guardian Young South Africans (2018), and is the recipient of the Gauteng Premier’s Youth Excellence Service Award (2019). She graduated with an Honours degree in African Literature from the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently reading for her Master’s Degree in Art History at the University of the Witwatersrand, focused on Black women photographers and refusal during apartheid.
